Support for tinnitus

When persistent ringing or buzzing affects more than your hearing

Tinnitus can present as ringing, buzzing, hissing, or humming sounds in one or both ears. For many people, it can affect concentration, sleep, emotional wellbeing, and overall quality of life. While the causes of tinnitus vary, stress, nervous system overload, jaw dysfunction, neck tension and previous injury can all influence how symptoms are experienced.

Craniosacral therapy offers a gentle approach that supports the nervous system, helping the body release patterns of tension and promoting a greater sense of calm and balance.

A gentle, non-invasive approach that works with the body

Using very light touch, the practitioner listens for areas where the body may be holding tension—particularly around the head, neck, jaw, spine, and connective tissues.

Rather than forcing change, the therapy supports the body's natural ability to release restrictions, settle the nervous system, and restore balance.

Supporting the nervous system and easing patterns of tension

Tinnitus can be physically and emotionally exhausting. The impact on daily life and sleep often has a detrimental affect on our mental health and wellbeing. It can exhaust our nervous system due to the constant sound ringing in our ears. Life with tinnitus is hard.

Tension within the jaw, neck, head, and surrounding tissues may also contribute to discomfort for some people.

Craniosacral therapy cannot "cure" tinnitus. The therapy works with the root cause of the symptoms by working with the whole body, supporting nervous system regulation while encouraging the release of tension in priority areas that may be influencing how tinnitus is experienced. Many people find sessions deeply relaxing and report feeling calmer and better able to cope with their symptoms or notice a significant reduction in the symptoms presenting.

Introducing myself

I’m Lisa Mann and I’m a registered Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist. I have also just graduated from a nine-month top-up paediatric craniosacral therapy course. This builds on my core training and deepens my expertise in the gentle and effective work with newborns and babies, and younger (under 8 years old) children. I will also be offering a range of massage therapies from September 2026.

So why did I train in biodynamic craniosacral therapy? Simply put, a very personal, difficult birth experience, a difficult baby feeding experience, and poor baby sleep, not forgetting personal sleep deprivation. My experience took me through oral dysfunction, baby birth trauma, and speech issues. Along the way, one amazing provider suggested I train in craniosacral therapy because of my growing passion to help other families recover from similar experiences. Little did I know at that time that craniosacral therapy was equally for older children and adults! Within three weeks I had committed thousands of pounds in an intensive two-year course in exactly that, alongside living anatomy and physiology for another nine months simultaneously. Training in biodynamic craniosacral therapy was much more of a vocation, and the passion I have for supporting anyone from newborns, babies to older children and adults is off the scale. When it comes to being passionate about what I do, it is, truly a passion that will last many years to come.

Tinnitus FAQs

Can craniosacral therapy help with tinnitus?

Many people choose craniosacral therapy as a complementary approach to help manage the impact of tinnitus. While it does not treat or cure tinnitus, it can help support nervous system regulation, reduce physical tension, and help you feel more relaxed and better able to cope with the presenting symptoms.

Is craniosacral therapy suitable if my tinnitus is caused by stress?

Stress doesn't necessarily cause tinnitus, but it can make symptoms feel more noticeable or difficult to manage. Craniosacral therapy supports the nervous system to move into a calmer state, in turn releasing strain patterns, which many people find helps reduce the impact tinnitus has on their daily lives.

Can jaw or neck tension affect tinnitus?

For some people, tension around the jaw (TMJ), neck, or upper shoulders can influence tinnitus symptoms. Craniosacral therapy works gently with these areas alongside the nervous system, supporting the body as a whole to release the strain patterns linked to causing the presenting symptoms.

Should I still see my GP or hearing specialist?

Yes. Tinnitus should always be assessed by a healthcare professional, particularly if it develops suddenly, affects only one ear, is accompanied by hearing loss, dizziness, or follows an injury. Craniosacral therapy is designed to complement, not replace, appropriate medical care.
